Collage
My collages are like little puzzles I love putting together. I start with all sorts of interesting bits and pieces - old papers, vintage photographs, and even some of my own snapshots. It's fun to mix these up and create something totally new.
I have a soft spot for quirky old books. You know those dusty how-to manuals and dictionaries you might find at a yard sale? They're treasure troves for me! I also get a kick out of old music books and those funny shorthand guides. There's something charming about their outdated instructions and rules.
When I take words and pictures out of their original context, they often end up telling a completely different story. Sometimes it turns out poignant, other times it's just plain silly. Either way, it's always interesting to see how these elements come together in unexpected ways.
This whole process is my way of exploring ideas and images, reshuffling them into what I like to think of as "visual thoughts."
