Drawing
I work intuitively from the inside out – responding to color, movement, and gesture. Sometimes images in my imagination are realistic, other times as cryptic as just a sense of color, a feeling, or a dream. When drawing I try to leave thoughts and judgments behind and let the art appear as it will.
The first series incorporates graphite drawing overlaid with artist crayon. These works represent an inner emotional landscape alternatively anxious and clear, tumultuous and calm. The colors are the emotions, reactions, and understandings of what it is to be a feeling person in the world. The titles are taken from places on the lunar surface, both exotic and lovely.
The other series uses a limited palette of just a few colors to reduce the image to a few essential elements. It is looking deeply at something familiar and common.
