Photography
I started making photographs when I unexpectedly received a used twin lens reflex camera in the mail from a distant relative. As a teenager, I was already intrigued with photography after seeing a monumental exhibit of world photography sponsored by magazine stern. Photography was the first visual art form that I was drawn to because it felt like I could understand the world better by creating my own sense of order. I like being able to choose a piece of my day to day life and capture it on film however I see it, and then hold it still as an object to be studied and contemplated.
My formal art training is in traditional black & white photography from which I moved into alternative processes including cliché verre, cyanotype and hand coloring. The handwork, layering of images, and working with non-photographic papers in these processes, led me to collage and artist books.
